Volunteers needed for Big Brothers/Big Sisters programs in NL and Solon

SOLON/NORTH LIBERTY– Blasting bottle rockets outside, making ice cream in a bag, and roasting marshmallows over a campfire are just a few of the fun, hands-on activities youths have experienced during the 4-H/Big Brother Big Sisters (BBBS) after-school club at North Central Junior High in North Liberty. After four years of growth and refinement, this youth development program partnership is expanding to Solon Middle School this fall, beginning Thursday, Sept. 27.
Tyson Wirth, BBBS School-Based Mentoring Specialist and Amey Kollar, 4-H Coordinator, facilitate weekly activities with intentionality; for youth to develop life skills with fun, hands-on activities specially focused on leadership, conflict resolution, goal setting, citizenship, problem solving and mindfulness. Caring adult volunteers mentor the youth and build meaningful relationships while getting to participate with the youth in art, cooking, STEM, healthy living, service, team building, field trips and everyone’s favorite, snacks.
Volunteers are needed for both programs.
The Noble Knights 4-H/BBBS club of North Central Junior High meets Wednesdays from 4-5:30 p.m. from Sept. 26 through May 15, 2019. Eleven volunteers are needed.
The Spartan Life 4-H/BBBS club of Solon Middle School meets Thursdays from 1:51-3:21 p.m. from Sept. 27 through May 16, 2019. Fourteen volunteers are needed.
If you want to help make a life-changing impact on youth while having a great time, apply to become a BBBS volunteer. Have an amazing impact with just 1.5 hours/week, while being supported by professional staff in person during unique and amazing programs.
