NORTH LIBERTY– Effective Friday, Feb. 1, North Liberty City Council member Jim Sayre will resign his seat.

Sayre provided his official notice of resignation Friday, Dec. 28, after accepting a new job with the University of Arizona in Tucson. His term was scheduled to continue through December this year.

“North Liberty has been incredible to me and my family and we’re grateful for having had the opportunity to live, play and work in such a great place,” he wrote in his resignation letter.

Sayre was elected to his first term in the council in 2015. He previously served on the city’s planning and zoning commission, board of adjustment and transit advisory committee. Sayre also serves as director of the University of Iowa’s parking and transportation department.

The city council was scheduled to discuss Sayre’s departure and possibly decide how to fill his vacancy during its Tuesday, Jan. 22, session in the council chambers at 1 Quail Creek Cir.
