High school baseball and softball schedules adjusted

DES MOINES – The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the high school baseball and softball seasons.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IHSAU) jointly moved the first days of practice for both sports to May 18 and the first day of competition to June 1 based upon the assumption Iowa high schools will resume classes on May 1. The postseason series for both sports currently remain unaltered a with the state softball tournament July 20-24 and the state baseball series July 24- Aug. 1.
Other items of note in the announcement include:
• Postseason host sites and event venues are still set as previously announced; any date changes will be announced as available.
• Pitching and catching start dates for softball and baseball is May 1 and 10 days of batting practice will be provided by the IHSAA between May 1-18.
• The maximum or minimum number of competition dates within the adjusted schedule has not been set by the IGHSAU and the IHSAA. Competition limits, previously set forth, apply for each sport. Regular seasons are to be determined by member schools as best suit the school schedules and activities.
• Due to course availability, dates for the golf post season may vary.
Member schools with contracted dates or facilities should contact those partners regarding potentially lost agreements and may contact IHSAA or IGHSAU administrators for assistance as necessary.
