Five Liberty volleyball players earn MVC All-Division honors

Fay and Hartman named to Valley Division First Team

NORTH LIBERTY– Five Liberty High School varsity volleyball players were named to Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) All-Division teams for their efforts on the courts this season.
Senior transfer from Iowa City West High Rylee Fay and freshman Cassidy Hartmann were named to the Valley Division First Team. Senior LeeAnn Potter was a Second Team pick while Addie Schmierer and Haley Hested were bestowed with Honorable Mention.
Dubuque Wahlert senior Aliyah Carter was named the Valley Division Athlete of the Year and Wahlert’s Lindsey Beaves and her staff picked up Division Coach of the Year honors. The Golden Eagles were second in the Valley Division, behind the Lightning, at 6-1 in conference action and 18-9 overall.
Cedar Falls senior Akacia Brown was named the Mississippi Division Athlete of the Year and the Tigers’ Matt Johnson and his staff won Coach of the Year. Cedar Falls won the Mississippi Division with a 7-0 conference record and 40-1 overall showing.
The Lightning finished the regular season at 6-1 in the conference and 33-2 overall. They earned their first trip to the state tournament with a 3-0 Class 5A regional semifinal win over Muscatine and a 3-0 sweep of Dubuque Hempstead in the regional final.

2019 Mississippi Valley Conference All-Division Volleyball Selections for Liberty High School
First Team– Rylee Fay, Cassidy Hartman
Fay– Senior setter Fay appeared in 93 sets during the regular season with 83 kills and 68 ace serves. She produced 496 assists, 108 digs, 10 block assists and four solo blocks.
Hartmann– Freshman middle blocker/outside hitter Hartmann played in 92 sets and made 236 kills and 40 ace serves. She made eight assists, 51 digs, 33 block assists and 28 solo blocks during the regular season for Liberty.
Second Team– LeeAnn Potter
Potter– Senior outside hitter Potter appeared in 93 sets and produced 220 kills for the Lightning, as well as 30 ace serves. She made a dozen assists, 204 digs, 13 block assists and eight solo blocks.
Honorable Mention– Addie Schmierer, Haley Hested
Schmierer– Junior defensive specialist/libero Schmierer was in 90 sets for Liberty during the regular season and made one kill and 19 ace serves. She had 61 assists and 255 digs.
Hested– Junior setter Hested appeared in 92 sets and made a dozen kills and 46 ace serves. She produced 362 assists and 85 digs.
