Creek Girls and Lady Spartans split

CCA wins, 8-4, and falls, 9-2
Bailey Olerich waits patiently for the ball to drop into her glove during a varsity doubleheader against the Lady Spartans on Wednesday, June 24, in Oxford. The Clippers earned their first win over Solon since 2012 with a split.

OXFORD– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) High School girls softball team recovered from a pair of losses to Benton Community and made a statement splitting with WaMaC East rival Solon Wednesday, June 24, at McAreavy Field, in Oxford. The win against the Lady Spartans was the first for the varsity Clippers since a doubleheader sweep in 2012.
Solon opened game one with a run in the top of the second and frustrated the Clippers through two scoreless innings. But in the bottom of the third, the Creek Girls plated four runners with RBI from Katelyn LeFleur and Reese Stockman for a 4-1 lead. Solon cut the gap with two runs in the fourth, which CCA answered with two of their own in the bottom half to make it 6-3. The Clippers scored one run in the fifth to lead 7-3. Solon’s final run of the contest came in the top of the sixth. CCA’s Ainsley Schrock, who had been hit by a pitch earlier in the game, put up the Clippers’ final run with a lead-off home run in the bottom half for the 8-4 win.
Schrock recorded three RBI in game one with two from LeFleur, and one from Cheyaenne Bunch, Bailey Olerich and Allie Rummelhart, who laid down a bunt to score Stockman.
Raina Henze went the distance, giving up four runs and seven hits with three strikeouts.
The Lady Spartans retaliated for the loss with a six-run first inning in game two, again holding the Clippers at bay until the bottom of the third. CCA loaded up the bases, but only got two runs in as Olerich and Avery Allen scampered in.
The Clippers put up five hits with a double and a single from Bunch, and a single each from Stockman, Grace Bedford and Schrock.
Peyton Grafft pitched 2/3 of the first inning giving up four hits and six runs, Ashley Webb worked the circle for 5-1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs while striking out three, and Grace Bedford threw one inning with one strikeout.
The split moved CCA to 6-4 overall and 6-4 in the WaMaC West, while Solon moved to 7-3 overall.
