Creek Boys drop rough one to Stormin Pointers

CPU snaps CCA win streak with 57-37 loss
CCA junior Christian Withrow led the Clippers against Center Point-Urbana with 16 points and five rebounds. He is pictured in action at home against West Delaware.

CENTER POINT The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity boys dipped to 4-3 as the Stormin Pointers of Center Point-Urbana (CPU) snapped the Clippers four-game winning streak Friday, Dec. 20, in Center Point. The Pointers defeated the Creek Boys, 57-37, in a game marred by the ejection of the Clippers student section by the officials in response to shouts of bull s*** by the students voicing their objection to foul calls.
CPU shut out CCA, 11-0, in the first quarter and, despite a 17-point Clipper rally in the second, the Pointers built a 33-17 halftime lead. The Pointers never trailed and had a 40-22 lead at the end of the third period.
Christian Withrow led CCA with 16 points and five rebounds. Tyler Schrepfer contributed 10 points.
The Creek Boys opened the season with a pair of losses to Central DeWitt and Mount Vernon but bounced back with four wins in a row against West Delaware, Grinnell, an upset win over Marion, and Independence. The Clippers inaugural cruise for 2020 begins Friday, Jan. 3, as Williamsburg visits for a girl-boy doubleheader night of basketball. Freshman-sophomore girls start the evening at 3 p.m. while the junior varsity girls and freshmen boys hit the courts at 4:30 p.m. The varsity girls and sophomore boys fire up at 6 p.m. The varsity boys tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. The Clippers travel to Benton Community on Tuesday, Jan. 7, and host South Tama on Friday, Jan. 10.
