Benton Community sweeps Solon

5 RBI for Jeter in loss

SOLON– Normally, 11 runs would be enough.
The Lady Spartans fell short, however, falling to Benton Community, 15-11, as part of a home doubleheader July 6. Solon also lost the nightcap, 7-6, racking up its fourth consecutive loss.
The Lady Spartans trailed the Bobcats, 15-5, after two innings, but clawed back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, three in the sixth and a score in the bottom of the seventh.
Senior Jadyn Jeter powered the offense, going 4-5 with a home run, two doubles, a single and five RBI. Freshman Hilary Wilson was also 4-5 at the plate, adding a solo home run, two doubles and a single.
The Lady Spartans pounded 16 hits, with 2-3 nights for sophomore Camryn Keith and freshman Claire LaDage.
Incoming freshman Kendall Jensen and senior Madison Sprague had trouble on the mound in the game-one loss. Jensen gave up eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits, while Sprague allowed seven runs (five earned) on six hits. Senior Kayla West pitched three innings of scoreless relief, striking out two.
In game two, Solon erased Benton’s 4-0 lead in the home half of the fourth, but the Bobcats came up with three more runs in the fifth. Despite plating runners in the fifth and sixth, the Lady Spartans ended up a run shy in the 7-6 loss.
Sophomore Carly Ellison took the loss, giving up seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits while walking four over five innings. West pitched two innings of scoreless relief, striking out two and walking one.
Senior Peyton Sands was 3-4 with a double and two RBI. The Lady Spartans had 13 hits, with doubles for Jeter and West. Jeter went 2-4 while Ellison was 2-3.
Solon dropped to 15-10 with the losses.
