Women of Troy, Creek Girls honored by IGCA

All-State, All-District softball teams announced

AMES­– The Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association (IGCA) recently announced its picks for 2017 All-State, Academic All-State and All-District Softball Teams with Iowa City West and Clear Creek Amana (CCA) players earning spots.
CCA’s Abbi Kinnaird was named to the Class 4A All-State Second Team and the 4A Northeast All-District Team. The senior started and played in 39 games and hit with a .433 batting average. She had 52 hits including six homeruns, one triple and eight doubles. She drove in 31 runs and scored 34 times. Kinnaird also stole five bases this year.
Karsen Stratton was named to the 4A Northeast All-District team as a freshman. Stratton started and played in 25 games with a .410 batting average. She had 34 hits including seven homeruns and 10 doubles, drove in 17 runs and scored 26. Stratton also had four stolen bases for the Clippers.
Iowa City West High’s Brylee Klosterman and Taleah Smith were Class 5A First Team All-State picks. Klosterman played in 26 games and started in 11 with a .208 batting average as a sophomore. She had five hits including a pair of doubles, posted one RBI and scored seven runs. Klosterman also had a .882 fielding percentage.
Smith, a senior, started and played in 41 games this season with a .436 batting average. She had 58 hits including one homerun, three triples and three doubles. Smith drove in 19 runs and scored 34 times. She also had 43 stolen bases.
Klosterman and Smith were also named to the Class 5A East District All-District Team.
