William E. “Bill” Carter

William E. “Bill” Carter, 79, of New London, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at his home. He was born April 21, 1938, in Wheatridge, Colorado, to Cleo Sr. and Letha Faye (McNamee) Carter.
On Nov. 22, 1959, he married Dianne Warth in New London. She died Sept. 6, 2011.
A 1955 graduate of New London High School, Bill was crowned the first Homecoming King. He was a member of New London Presbyterian Church. Bill retired after 43 years at JI Case. He volunteered with the New London Junior Baseball Association; was a member of the Jaycees, the Oddfellows and Deerwood Golf Club where he got a hole-in-one; enjoyed time spent at the family pond fishing, feeding the fish and mowing; spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events; golfing, photography and camping; and enjoyed time spent visiting casinos.
Survivors include two sons, Brian Scott (Terri) Carter of New London and Gary Todd (Darla) Carter of Solon; one daughter, Barbara Lynn Meyer of New London; seven grandchildren, Joel (Kara) Carter, Sarah Meyer, Lauren Carter, Jackie Meyer, Christopher “Bubba” (Kirsten) Carter, Steven Meyer and Danielle Carter; two great-grandchildren, Maya and Grayson Carter; and nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Cleo Carter, Jr.; one sister, Veronda Carter Pickle; son-in-law Alan Meyer and a nephew, Cleo Carter III.
The memorial service for Bill Carter was held Friday, Sept. 29, at Elliott Chapel, New London. Visitation was Thursday at the chapel. According to his wishes, his body has been cremated. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials have been established for New London Christian Church and Black and Gold Backers.
