Trojans finish 2017 on top

IOWA CITY– The West High Trojans finished 2017 with a 7-0 record thanks in part to trouncing the Waterloo East Trojans, 86-55, Friday, Dec. 22, at home.
West pulled ahead 18-11 at the end of the first period and bombed the visiting Trojans 24-15 in the second quarter for a 42-26 advantage at halftime. West High continued to punish East High with 23 and 21 points in the third and fourth quarters.
Patrick McCaffery led West with 25 points; Dadrian Hoambrecker added 16 and Dante Eldridge produced a dozen points, including two 3-pointers. Seybian Sims added eight points, Jayson Barnes put in six and Evan Flitz scored four points, as did Paul McGee. Jacob Klein had a 3-point basket while Jake Anderson, Brayden Adcock, Cole Mabry and Jalen Gaudet produced two points each.
McCaffery led in rebounds with 10 while Sims had six.
West High was at the top of the Mississippi Valley Conference’s Mississippi Division as the only undefeated squad in the league at 4-0. Dubuque Senior led the Valley Division at 4-0 in conference play and 6-1 overall.
The Trojans are home Friday, Jan. 5, as Dubuque Wahlert visits for a 7:30 p.m. varsity start and stay home on Tuesday, Jan. 9, to entertain Linn-Mar (also 7:30 p.m.). West High visits Cedar Rapids Washington on Friday, Jan. 12.
