Solon boys shut out Pella Christian, 4-0

SOLON– It didn’t take long for Solon to assert itself against Pella Christian in a Class 1A Substate 6 soccer match May 22.
Senior Luke Yetley found himself at the top of the box for a shot on goal just four minutes into the match and threaded a pair of Eagle defenders for a 1-0 lead. Brother Gabe Yetley was credited with the assist.
From there, the Spartans dominated, walking away with a 4-0 win and a matchup against Iowa Mennonite for a berth in the state soccer tournament. Iowa Mennonite defeated Clarke, 1-0, in the other side of the Substate 6 bracket.
The substate final was scheduled for Saturday, May 25, in Solon, subsequent to the early filing deadline for this edition.

Pella Christian did not go quietly. The Eagles had pressured the goal early and responded to the 2-0 deficit with a pair of unsuccessful corner kicks.
But the Spartans pushed back, clearing the ball and sprinting hard to the Pella side of the field, where Gabe Yetley took a swing from 20 yards out, clanging off the right upright of the goal and careening in for a 3-0 lead with 27 minutes remaining in the half.
Justus added a second goal and Solon cruised to the 4-0 win.
