Solon Parks & Rec Department

Solon Parks and Recreation Board Meeting: The next meeting is Thursday, March 8, at 6:30 p.m. at Solon City Hall. Meetings are open to the public.

Boot Camp: SESSION 5 OF BOOT CAMP. The next session begins March 19 and continues on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6-7 p.m. Classes are held in Room 601 (Wednesdays) and 405 (Mondays) in the former Solon Middle School on Iowa Street. This 10-class strengthening session is again instructed by Renee Manders and includes a variety of exercises, including resistance training and body weight exercises. More information and the registration form are available on the Solon Parks and Recreation website. Registration forms are also available at Solon City Hall. You can register for all 10 classes or five classes (half). Walk-ins and trial users are welcome for a $10 fee/class. If you decide later to register, walk-in fees will be applied toward your registration.

Yoga: SESSION 3 OF YOGA. The latest session began Feb. 19 and runs for 10-classes. The classes are on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6-7 p.m. in the auditorium lobby of the former Solon Middle School on Iowa Street. The session is again instructed by Carol Daly. More information and registration forms are available on the Solon Parks and Recreation website. Registration forms are also available at the city office. Walk-ins are welcome for a $10 fee/class. You can also purchase a half registration (five classes).

Family Movie: The next free family movie, “Wonder,” sponsored by the Solon Parks and Recreation Department, will be Friday, March 23, in the former Solon Middle School Auditorium, corner of Iowa Street and 2nd Street. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie will start at 7 p.m. A concession stand will be available. Mark your calendars. SOCCER REFEREES NEEDED. You must be in at least seventh grade and either played or refereed soccer previously. Pay is $10/game. Matches are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Solon Recreation and Nature Area soccer fields with the first matches scheduled for April 3. BASEBALL/SOFTBALL UMPIRES NEEDED. You must be in at least ninth grade and either played or umpired softball or baseball previously. Pay is $15/game behind the plate or $10 on the bases. Games will be on Monday and Thursday evenings starting at 6 p.m. at the Solon Recreation and Nature Area diamonds. The first games are scheduled for May 7. Zumba: SESSION 2 OF ZUMBA. This 10-class session began Feb. 22 and is instructed by Tara Allen on Thursday (7:15-8:15 p.m.) and Friday (6-7 p.m.) evenings. Classes are held in the auditorium of the former Solon Middle School on Iowa Street. More information and the registration form are available on the Solon Parks and Recreation website. Registration forms are also available at Solon City Hall. Walk-ins are welcome for a $10 fee/class. You can purchase a half registration (i.e. 5 classes).

Spring soccer and junior/senior baseball and softball registrations: Sign up is still available for spring soccer until Friday, March 2, without a late fee. It is for ages fourth through sixth grade. You can still sign up for minor (third-fourth grade) and major (fifth-sixth grade) baseball and softball, as well as senior (seventh-eighth grade) baseball by Friday, March 23. Soccer coaches meeting: Monday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m. in Solon City Hall.

Third-sixth grade softball and third-eighth grade baseball coaches meeting: Wednesday, March 28, at 6:30 p.m. in the Solon Parks and Recreation office, 223 S. Iowa St., the brick building just north of the former Solon Middle School.

Hardship scholarship funding is available for Solon recreation activity registration fees. Thanks to generous donations from a local businesses, there is funding available for those that can’t afford all or part of a fee.
