Solon Parks & Rec

Basketball referees needed for third-sixth grade boys’ basketball: Applicants must be high school age or older and have prior experience in either playing or refereeing basketball. Games are played on Saturdays in the Lakeview Elementary gym (Jan. 20 and 27, and Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Referees will be paid $10 per game. Boys Basketball for third-sixth grade boys: Registration ends on Dec. 8. There is a coaches meeting in the Solon Parks and Recreation office, the brick building just north of the former Solon Middle School, on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 6:30 p.m. Games are played on Saturdays in January and February, starting Jan. 20, in Solon, Iowa Street gym, Mount Vernon and Lisbon. Registration forms were distributed to Solon students on Friday, Nov. 17, and are also available on the Solon Parks and Recreation website. Online registration is available at https://solon-iowa.cogran.com.

Boot Camp: Session 2 classes began Nov. 28 and are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-7 p.m. in room 601 of the former Solon Middle School. Classes include a variety of exercises, including resistance training and body weight exercises. Your heart rate will be elevated and you will burn a lot of calories if you work hard! Be ready to increase total body strength, improve your present cardiovascular state and increase endurance. This eight-class strengthening session is being instructed by Renee Manders, who is an ACE certified instructor and teaches the same class at the North Liberty Recreation Center. Go to the Solon Parks and Recreation website or Solon City Hall for a registration form. Walk-ins are welcome for a $10 fee per class.

Yoga: SESSION 2 OF YOGA: Carol Daly agreed to teach another session (10 classes) of yoga, starting Monday, Jan. 8, 2018. Classes are Monday and Thursday evenings, from 6-7 p.m. in the lobby area of the former Solon Middle School (Iowa Street) auditorium. More information and the registration form are available on the Solon Parks and Recreation website. Registration forms are also available at Solon City Hall.

Little Tykes 3-on-3 Pickup Basketball Games: It’s for first and second grade boys and girls. The Saturday morning program is held at the Lakeview Elementary gym on Feb. 17 and 24 and March 3. Starting Jan. 5, registration is available online at www.solon-iowa.com. Hard copy registration forms will be handed out at school that day, in the Friday folder, and will also be available at the Lakeview office, the school’s backpack webpages, City Hall and the parks and recreation webpage. Each registrant will receive a reversible jersey. Each Saturday, those attending will be divided into teams of three. There will be at least one boys and one girls session, but more sessions will be added, if warranted, by the number of registrants.

Restrooms at Randall Park and the Solon Recreation and Nature Area (SRNA) are closed until spring.
