Santa Claus visits Oxford

OXFORD– A time-honored tradition continued in Oxford as Santa and Mrs. Claus made a stop in this small town on Saturday, Dec. 19, to visit with the local children, and receive Christmas wishes in person. The jolly couple sat in a sled parked in front of the Veterans Memorial for a few hours in the afternoon, braving a brisk breeze making the air feel reminiscent of The North Pole.
The Oxford American Legion Post 537 has long been Santa’s temporary post with grandparents remembering going there to visit with Jolly Old St. Nick when they were kids. Mrs. Claus pointed out she and Santa have a very special relationship with the Legion, and our veterans. The Bryant family, she pointed out, has several members who have been in the military from WWII to Vietnam to more recent missions in Kuwait and Kosovo. “We are strong supporters of the American Legion,” said Mrs. Claus.
The Legion is still accepting donations toward a new Veterans Memorial, and is awaiting word on some grant applications as fundraising continues for the project.
