Santa brings Christmas Cheer to Oxford

American Legion Auxiliary’s Soup, Shop & Santa Event welcomes Good Old St. Nick
Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive at the Oxford American Legion Post 537 on a fire engine Saturday, Dec. 14. The jolly couple visited with the local youth to gather their Christmas wishes, dreams and desires as part of the Legion Auxiliary’s annual Soup, Shop & Santa event.

OXFORD– The American Legion Post 537 in Oxford hosted a very special couple on Saturday, Dec. 14, as Santa and Mrs. Claus dropped by to meet local children, and hear their Christmas wishes, dreams and hopes. The visit was part of the annual Soup, Shop & Santa event sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, with the Canopy Lodge #290 of the AF&AM Masons providing a free soup luncheon.
The jolly couple from the North Pole was delivered to the Legion Post by the Oxford Fire Department, and spent two hours at the Post.
In addition, a craft show and vendor fair was held in the Legion Hall with a variety of handcrafted wares for sale. Included was a selection of handmade Christmas ornaments commemorating the 100th anniversary of the American Legion, and Legion Auxiliary, made by Auxiliary President Gina Henkleman. The ornaments are available, at $5 each, at the Legion Post. A major celebration event is in the works for April to celebrate the historic anniversary.
The winners of the Auxiliary’s Light It Up Oxford Christmas lights decorating contest were announced with Mike Cox winning the residential category, and Prime Cut taking the top honors in the business class.
