Robert D. “Bob” Parker

Robert D. “Bob” Parker, 63, of North Liberty, passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A memorial service was held Wednesday, May 18, at Lensing Funeral Home, Iowa City, with Father Ed Fitzpatrick officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The North Liberty Fire Fighters Foundation or to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society .
Bob was born Jan. 30, 1953, in Iowa City, the son of Maynard and Lois (Henderson) Parker. He was a 1971 graduate of University High School and later graduated from the University of Iowa. Bob joined the North Liberty Fire Department in 1971, recently receiving recognition for 45 years of service. He worked as a principal research associate in Psychometrics at Pearson in Iowa City from 1975 until his passing. Bob was united in marriage to Rae Ruhland on April 1, 1978.
Bob was a dedicated Hawkeye fan as well as a Chicago Blackhawks hockey fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, including those at the North Liberty Fire Department. He also enjoyed fishing in Minnesota, woodworking, biking, metal detecting and gaming.
He was an excellent teacher, mentor, grandfather, father and husband.
Bob is survived by his wife, Rae of North Liberty; two children, Kim (Mauricio) Ordaz, of Fairfax, and Cory (Shannon) Parker, of North Liberty; eight grandchildren, Mauricio, Tyler, Carter, Christian, Conner, Enrrique, Kailee and Keaton; father, Maynard Parker of North Liberty; and brother, Tom (Terry) Parker of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois.
