Liberty High’s Lily Anderson moves the ball downfield while a pack of Cedar Valley Christian (CVC) Huskies converge upon her Tuesday, May 1, in Alburnett. The CVC Huskies remained undefeated after knocking off the Liberty Lightning, 3-0.

ALBURNETT– As storms crept ever closer, the Liberty High Lightning fell, 3-0, to the 15th-ranked team in Class 1A, the Huskies of Cedar Valley Christian (CVC). The Huskies, a shared program between CVC and Alburnett High School, brought a 9-0 record into the Tuesday, May 1, contest in Alburnett. The Bolts, unranked by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, were 2-5.
The Huskies first struck in the 24th minute and held a 1-0 lead at halftime. Five minutes into the second half, the Huskies struck again to go up, 2-0. The Bolts fended off multiple attacks throughout the period, limiting the damage, but with 1:50 remaining, a Huskie booted a long shot into the wind that found the back of the net for the 3-0 final as lightning began to flash off to the north.
The Bolts get a home rematch on Monday, May 14, at the Coralville Youth Sports Complex, 2480 Dempster Dr., at 5 p.m. before traveling to Newton on Tuesday, May 15, for a 7 p.m. match.
