Liberty boys overcome slump

Paulsen leads Liberty with 33 defeating Demons, 62-54

WASHINGTON– Stu Ordman and his Liberty High Lightning struck down a six-game losing streak with a 62-54 win on the road over the Washington Demons Tuesday, Jan. 30.
The Bolts led 22-13 at the end of the first period and held a 38-30 advantage at halftime. Liberty increased their lead to 56-41 going into the final quarter. Washington dropped to 5-10 with the loss, while the Lightning improved to 6-12.
Iziah Paulsen had a 33-point night for Liberty including five 3-point baskets. Bo Gryp contributed nine points, Ethan O’Donnell had an eight-point night, Andre Brandon produced seven points and seven rebounds while Sam Funke had a five-point showing.
The Independence High School Mustangs gallop into the Lightning’s cloud on Saturday, Feb. 10, for a 3:30 p.m. matinee to close out the regular season. Liberty High participates in the postseason playoffs starting Monday, Feb. 19, at a location to be determined. The Bolts compete in Class 3A Substate No. 5 with Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Mount Pleasant, Solon, Washington and West Liberty.
