Liberty Boys are state XC bound

Bolts’ runners are the first team in school history to make it to state

MARSHALLTOWN– Another piece of Liberty High School history was made Thursday, Oct. 24, as the varsity boys cross country team earned a place on the starting line of the 2019 Class 4A state meet in Fort Dodge on Saturday, Nov. 2.
The Bolts finished third in team points in a district (state qualifying) meet at the Marshalltown Community College course behind champion (and Mississippi Valley Conference rival) Cedar Rapids Prairie, and runner-up Johnston.
Junior Bo Gryp led the Lightning with a fifth-place finish in 16:33.2. Jack Kinzer was hot on his heels for sixth in 16:33.5. Prairie senior Jack Pendergast won the district championship in 16:03.2.
The state meet is held at Kennedy Park and opens with 4A girls at 11 a.m. followed by 4A boys at 11:30 a.m. The Class 4A awards ceremony is scheduled for 12:20 p.m.
