The dogs have their day during Beat the Bitter

NL’s weeklong winter festival wraps up with winter games
Hazel, a huskie from North Liberty, sprints around cones with her human, Huong, Saturday, Feb. 1, during the I“Bitter”Rod 1k doggie walk/run in Penn Meadows Park. The event was one of the last for the weeklong Beat the Bitter winter festival with 20 dogs registered.

NORTH LIBERTY– North Liberty’s Beat the Bitter winter festival, a weeklong effort to break people out of their wintertime hibernation, wrapped up Saturday, Feb. 1, with adult kickball and the Run the I“Bitter”Rod 1k doggie fun run/walk at Penn Meadows Park, along with several other events around North Liberty, including the Snuggie Crawl and Boy Scout Troop 216’s annual Chili Supper.
Twenty dogs were registered for the I“Bitter”Rod, which featured a few obstacles for adventurous dogs to enjoy. The Johnson County Dog Park Action Committee ran the event as a fundraiser for North Liberty’s Red Fern Dog Park, which is located on North Liberty Road near Liberty High School. Paving and fencing work has been done on the site, which is scheduled to open this summer.
