Clubs and businesses want space on Tiffin’s new LED board

TIFFIN– A fish fry, a car wash, a golf outing. Area clubs, organizations and businesses have been vying for advertising space on the City of Tiffin’s new LED welcome sign.
“I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you we kind of saw this coming,” said City Administrator Doug Boldt at a Tiffin City Council meeting Tuesday, Aug. 15. “And they’re not necessarily all in Tiffin.”
He said he and Deputy City Clerk Ashley Jay-received multiple requests to include information about events and fundraisers on the sign, which became functional in July and sits on the lawn outside city hall.
Council members approved the $42,849 purchase of the sign, designed by MediaQuest, of Cedar Rapids, in February. It welcomes drivers to town, in addition to displaying important city communications.
“I think there should be stuff put on it that’s going on, but how do you limit it?” council member Joann Kahler commented.
Boldt said that’s the kind of direction he was asking of the council.
“We don’t have an issue,” he noted.
“We just want to know what you want us to do,” added Jay-Platz.
