Celebrate Bike Month in North Liberty

Bike commuting workshop May 11

NORTH LIBERTY– In honor of Bike Month 2017, Johnson County is sponsoring several events in the area.
One of those is a “How to be a Bike Commuter” workshop at the North Liberty Community Library (520 W. Cherry St.) on Thursday, May 11, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Jon Yetley of Sugar Bottom Bikes will teach you everything you need to know to bike commute, including quick repairs and maintenance.

Musicycle at Penn May 13

NORTH LIBERTY– Join others for a fun day of biking to support the Iowa City Music Auxiliary on Saturday, May 13, rain or shine, starting at Penn Meadows Park in North Liberty.
There will be three routes: a free 2.1-mile free route for kids at 10 a.m., a staccato, or short, 19-mile route for $30 at 9 a.m., and a largo, or long, 44-mile route for $30 at 8 a.m. The 19- and 44-mile routes will offer rest stops with water and snacks.
Before and after your ride, stop by the “Instrument Petting Zoo” at north Penn Meadows Park and try your hand at a variety of instruments available for play.
Visit www.musicycle.evenbrite.com and select “Tickets” to register. Early May 1 registration has passed, but T-shirts may be available day-of the ride. Extra T-shirts are $15.

Boulevard Bikes and Brews May 20

NORTH LIBERTY– The 5th Annual Bikes and Brews on Saturday, May 20, will take you through Johnson County Iowa on a journey to great craft beer bars. Try some great Boulevard Brewing Co. beers along the way and relax at the end of the day with live music on the patio at Red’s Alehouse in North Liberty.
Pre-registration at bikereg.com/boulevard-bikes-n-brews is now open, and there are two different levels of participation this year. The $10 option includes a Boulevard water bottle, while the $20 option includes a Bikes and Brews T-shirt (must be registered by May 12 to guarantee correct size). All proceeds benefit the Variety Club’s Bikes for Kids program.
To relieve registration lines the day off, there will be a packet and wristband pick-up party at Joe’s Place (115 Iowa Ave., Iowa City) on Friday, May 19, from 5-9 p.m. Stop by, grab some Boulevard and enjoy some live music before the big ride.

Cyclist breakfast May 15

NORTH LIBERTY– North Liberty bike commuters are invited to kick off Bike to Work Week with breakfast at Sugar Bottom Bikes (325 N. Front St.) on Monday, May 15, from 7-9 a.m.
