Beckman cruises over Solon

Blazers build big lead in 63-43 win

SOLON– It was a big hole.
When Carson Shive hit two free throws to open the Solon scoring and tie the game against Beckman Catholic Jan. 31 in Solon, it was as close as the Spartans would get the rest of the night.
Shive hit a three-pointer moments later to make the score 6-5 in Beckman’s favor, but from there out, things didn’t bounce Solon’s way.
Turnovers haunted the Spartans early on and the Blazers built a 16-5 first-quarter lead they would not relinquish.
Beckman held the Spartans to 14 points in the first half and held a commanding 26-point lead heading into the third quarter.
Solon would respond in the second half, outscoring Beckman 13-5 in the third period, but the Blazers held their own in the fourth for the 63-43 win.
Beckman was super-efficient against Solon, hitting 21-36 shots (58.3 percent) from the field and 4-7 (57 percent) from three-point range, to go along with 17-22 (77 percent) at the line.
The Blazers were led in scoring by juniors Jack Gehling and Mason White with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Senior Michael Keegan added eight points, six rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots.
Keegan’s reverse dunk on a lob pass moments into the second quarter made the score 18-5 and brought the Beckman fans to their feet.
Solon fans had just watched the team’s leading scorer, junior David Bluder, walk off the court with assistance after an injury with seconds left in the first period.
His teammates regrouped, but could only muster nine more points in the half– a three-pointer by Cam Miller, a hard-earned bucket in the paint by Ben Cusick and a put-back by Kinnick Pusteoska to go along with free throws by Bo Janssen and Shive.
