Tiffin roundabout project is “going well”
An excavator piles up large chunks of torn up pavement Tuesday, April 14, at Highway 6 and S. Park Road, in Tiffin. Work resumed on the roundabout on Monday, April 13.

TIFFIN– Work on the Highway 6 and Park Road roundabout, on the east side of Tiffin, resumed Monday, April 13, following a winter hiatus.
The $3.1 million project is being paid for with a combination of funding sources: $500,000 coming from an Iowa Clean Air Attainment Program (ICAAP) grant, $500,000 from the Transportation Safety Improvement Program (TSIP), and the balance from municipal bonds.
The ICAAP grant is administered by the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) that created the program in 1994, modeled after the federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement program (CMAQ, founded in 1991). The CMAQ program provides funds to states for projects intended to reduce volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and under certain conditions, particulate matter. The TSIP is defined by Iowa Code and provides safety funds to cities, counties and the IDOT in three specific categories with the intention to distribute funds for roadway safety improvements, traffic control devices, research studies or public information initiatives.
“Things are going well,” said Tiffin City Administrator Doug Boldt on Tuesday, March 28, adding the project was on schedule. Currently, the project is expected to be completed on Thursday, July 2, according to an updated schedule from Marion-based general contractor Rathje Construction.
As a part of the project, North Park Road will close starting Monday, June 8, and last until July 2.
