Airplane crash near Oxford claims two lives

IOWA CITY– The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to work on the investigation of a small airplane crash that claimed two lives Friday, April 7, west of Iowa City.
The plane involved in the crash was a single engine, 1965 Piper Cherokee 180 that originated from the Greencastle Airport west of North Liberty. According to the sheriff’s office, the Joint Emergency Communications Center received a report of a plane crash near 2383 IWV Rd. SW in rural Johnson County at approximately 3:08 p.m. April 7.
The victims involved in the plane crash have been identified as Terry Koehn, 70, of rural Iowa City, and James Spicer, 56, of Cedar Rapids. The victims were transported to the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. 
At this point there is no information to release regarding radio traffic or what led to the crash. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Traffic Safety Board (NTSB) have custody of the airplane and any questions pertaining to the timeframe of the investigation can be directed to those respective agencies. Johnson County agencies will continue to assist the FAA and NTSB on this case.
