WELLMAN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) boys track and field team tied for seventh place with the Oskaloosa Indians Tuesday, April 17, at Mid-Prairie’s Hawk Coed Relays.
Mount Pleasant won the meet with 148 team points and the host Hawks were the runner-up team, while CCA and Oskaloosa tied for seventh with 26 points. CCA’s WaMaC rivals Williamsburg and Anamosa were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Liberty girls golf drops close one to Bears

CORALVILLE– Liberty High’s varsity girls golf team is “getting better every time out,” said coach Brian Wernimont after the Lightning dropped a close match Tuesday, April 17, at Brown Deer Golf Course, to West Branch. The Bears won 209 to the Bolts’ 212. Aleah Rocha, from West Branch, won with 48, while Liberty’s Neely Maurus was the runner up with 49. Cassidy Sundine shot a career-best 51 in the match.

WATERLOO– Iowa City West High’s varsity girls tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season Tuesday, April 10, with a 9-0 road win over Waterloo East.
Emma Koch, Jessica Moonjely, Vivian Mitchell, Caroline Chandler, Natalie Katz and Morgan Hawkins won their singles matches, with Moonjely and Mitchell, Audrey Koch and Chandler, and Katz and Hawkins winning in doubles play.

LONG GROVE– Liberty High’s varsity girls golf team finished the day seventh in team points Thursday, April 12, at North Scott’s Lancer Invitational held at the Glynn’s Creek Golf Course in Long Grove.
Dubuque Wahlert Catholic won the 12-team meet with a team total of 339, Dubuque Senior was third with 376, North Scott was sixth with 409 while the Lightning finished seventh with 421 and Davenport West rounded out the field with 522.
Neely Maurus once again led the Lightning with 96 through 18 holes.

CCA defeats Benton Community, 244-255

AMANA– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity girls’ golf team came away with a dual win versus Benton Community on Thursday, April 12, at the Amana Colonies Golf Course. The Creek Girls shot a 244 team score defeating the Bobcats’ 255.
Emily Greathouse (CCA) took medalist honors with a 55, while Benton’s Rachel Maschino took runner-up honors with a 57.
The Clippers travel to the Pin Oak Pub and Links (2266 185th Ave. in Manchester) on Monday, April 23, for a 4 p.m. dual meet with West Delaware and take on Solon and South Tama on Thursday, April 26, in Solon starting at 4 p.m.

DEWITT– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity boys soccer team suffered its second loss of the season on Tuesday, April 10, to the Sabers of Central Clinton, on the road in DeWitt. The Sabers defeated the Clippers, 3-0.
Junior Blake Malli, the Creek Boys’ keeper, made nine saves through 80 minutes of play.
The Clippers travel to Center Point-Urbana on Thursday, April 19, for a 4:30 p.m. match and visit West Liberty on Monday, April 23, with a 5 p.m. start. The Creek Boys visit Marion on Tuesday, April 24, at 4:30 p.m.

CPU defeats CCA in varsity soccer doubleheader

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana’s varsity girls’ and boys’ soccer teams faced Center Point-Urbana in a home doubleheader Thursday, April 19, after a soggy pitch in Center Point forced the boys’ match to Tiffin.
The visitors ruled the evening as the Pointer girls sank the Clippers 7-0 and CPU’s boys capsized CCA, 2-1.
Lillian Hennes made nine saves and was the victim of seven goals in 80 minutes of play for the Creek Girls while Blake Malli made four saves and allowed two goals for the Creek Boys. Christian Romero put in CCA’s only goal of the night with an assist by Trevor King.

Women of Troy top tennis Prairie hawks, 8-1

IOWA CITY– The sun finally came out Tuesday, April 17, and shone brightly upon the Iowa City West High Women of Troy as they defeated Cedar Rapids Prairie, 8-1, in varsity tennis action at West High.
“Five matches have been postponed due to weather conditions,” Coach Amie Villarini said.
The win improved West’s record to 3-0 in the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC).

IOWA CITY– The Cedar Rapids Kennedy Cougars left the Iowa City West High Women of Troy looking for their first win of the season after defeating West, 4-1, Tuesday, April 17, at West High’s Ed Barker Soccer Complex, as the first half of a girls/boys varsity doubleheader.
Junior Rachel Olson scored West’s only goal with an assist from Kennedy Hochstedler (also a junior), while Julia Bernat, a freshman, made 17 saves and allowed four goals through 80 minutes of play.

SOLON– The Lady Spartans entered Spartan Stadium on Saturday, April 21, still reeling from the Anamosa setback the night before, and nursing some walking wounded, to meet the Liberty Lightning.
It would be a test for the battle-weary Lady Spartans to overcome their new opponent, which they would; after two 40-minute halves of play, two 10-minute overtimes, and five penalty kicks per team, the Solon Lady Spartans captured the win, 3-2.
