Curbside leaf collection begins in October

NORTH LIBERTY– Fall leaf collection is scheduled to start Monday, Oct. 12, and run through Friday, Nov. 20. Leaves are collected curbside if at the curb by 7 a.m. that Friday.
To have leaves collected, rake them within 2 feet of the public street by 7 a.m. on each Monday. Crews collect them by Friday. Don’t bag leaves or mix them with sticks, branches or other yard waste, or any other materials.
To speed collection, avoid placing piles near street signs or utility poles, and avoid parking vehicles in front of leaf piles.

CCA school board approves the student leadership council Homecoming plan

OXFORD– It is doubtful any aspect of the school year is left untouched by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, including the annual fall tradition of Homecoming. The student leadership council at the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) High School, in Tiffin, wrestled with how to continue the time-honored celebration while balancing health and safety concerns. The district opened the 2020-2021 school year on Tuesday, Sept. 8, in a 100 percent virtual (all online) format after receiving a waiver from the Iowa Department of Education, which lifted a requirement for at least 50 percent of learning being delivered in-person, due to COVID-19 positivity rates greater than 15 percent in Johnson County.

Moving in the right direction

NLFD cuts response times, expands paid staff, and takes delivery of a new fire engine

NORTH LIBERTY– When it comes to emergency services, minutes count.
A person not breathing begins to suffer brain damage in three minutes, and it becomes irreversible by nine minutes. A person in cardiac arrest (not breathing and no pulse) has his or her chance of survival drop 10 percent with every minute. Fire doubles in size every minute. For firefighters, this reality translates into a relentless quest to minimize response times.
