Don Barkhoff, 65, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Services were held Thursday, Feb. 11, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, with Rev. Renee Lunemann presiding. Private family inurnment will be held in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo at a later date. Visitation was held at Brosh Chapel.
Don was born Dec. 1, 1944, in Cedar Falls, the son of Benny and Dorothy (Straight) Barkhoff. He served in the U.S. Navy for over four years and was involved in electrical maintenance on radar. Don installed carpet and flooring for Randy's Interiors in Coralville for many years. Don enjoyed classic cars, including going to car shows.
Don is survived by his wife Linda of Solon; a brother Steve (Keevin) Barkhoff of Delhi; children Dan (Darla) Barkhoff of Grundy Center, Sandy (Mike) Schebler of Solon, Britt (Kevin) Tompkins of Solon, Nicki Munger of Charlotte, N.C., Chad (Kristie) Munger of Houston, Texas, Kyle (Kassi) Bantz of Cedar Rapids as well as 10 grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Don is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Carole Petra.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society in his name.
