Hawkeyes' Hamlin has big goals for senior year

Every summer I like to do a story on a basketball player who is going into their senior year.
This will be an easy pick for women’s basketball as Joann Hamlin will be the only senior on the Iowa roster this fall.
Ever since Joann became eligible after transferring from Kansas State in 2006, the Hawkeyes won a Big Ten championship her sophomore year (2007-08) then came through with a second place finish last season.
Add two NCAA tournament selections, back-to-back 21-win seasons and you have a nice two-year run.
What do you do for your final year?

Bumps in the road

SHUEYVILLE–The City of Shueyville, in advocating for reconstruction of 120th Street, has hit a bump bigger than any of the road’s many potholes.
Johnson County and Shueyville city officials agree that the town’s main east-west thoroughfare between Curtis Bridge Road and Interstate 380 has been in poor condition for quite some time, with its narrow and uneven surface, deteriorating pavement, lack of shoulders a collapsing culvert and numerous holes. However, the two entities have yet to reach an agreement on how it should be fixed, or who should pay for it.

Building a future

NEAR SOLON — Though it was late June in Iowa, and hot enough for the guys digging post-holes by hand and lifting a heavy steel guardrail into place, no complaints could be heard. There were smiles, jokes, and even laughter as the rail was hefted into place and secured with bolts.
Not only had the group knocked another project off Coralville Lake Park Ranger Jeffrey Peck’s “to do” list, they also further proved themselves to their boss, Ranger Peck.

DES MOINES– In June, 2007, Iowa saw the lowest number of motor vehicle fatalities since 1982. Now, in 2009, thanks to the strong efforts of the Iowa State Patrol and the Safe Saturday Project, Iowa is on track to blow that record out of the water.
