CCA supt. gives his State of the District report

OXFORD– The President of the United States reports on the State of the Union to Congress. The governor gives a State of the State report to the Legislature. Some mayors give a State of the City report to their city councils. In like fashion, Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Community School District Superintendent Tim Kuehl gave a State of the District report to the school board of directors in a pair of work sessions on Tuesday, June 4, and Tuesday, June 11, at Clear Creek Elementary in Oxford.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas– A 2012 Cedar Rapids Prairie High School graduate and Swisher native is participating in a rigorous training process that transforms officers into U.S. naval aviators.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Conor Mittauer is a student pilot with the “Stingrays” of Training Squadron (VT) 35, based in Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas. The squadron flies the T-44C Pegasus aircraft.
A Navy student pilot is responsible for training to become a maritime pilot.
“I enjoy how extremely challenging the training program is,” Mittauer said.

Preparing for the worst

CCA commissions a study to determine what’s best in case of a tornado

OXFORD– While many things can qualify as a “worst-case scenario,” one situation bound to top the list every time is a tornado hitting a school while it is in session. The nightmare has come true several times with three of particular note.
On April 21, 1967, a tornado scored a direct hit on the Belvidere, Ill., High School just as students were loading buses at the end of the school day. Thirteen deaths and 300 injuries were reported at the school. According to Tom Grazulis of The Tornado Project, this was the nation’s sixth-worst school death toll from a tornado.

Spartans blank Eagles in substate semifinal

Solon boys shut out Pella Christian, 4-0

SOLON– It didn’t take long for Solon to assert itself against Pella Christian in a Class 1A Substate 6 soccer match May 22.
Senior Luke Yetley found himself at the top of the box for a shot on goal just four minutes into the match and threaded a pair of Eagle defenders for a 1-0 lead. Brother Gabe Yetley was credited with the assist.
From there, the Spartans dominated, walking away with a 4-0 win and a matchup against Iowa Mennonite for a berth in the state soccer tournament. Iowa Mennonite defeated Clarke, 1-0, in the other side of the Substate 6 bracket.
